12 injured in violent clash over land dispute after court hearing in Howrah

A land dispute between the families of Sharmila Malik and Tarapada Santra in Santoshpur Mahan Makaltala area of Jagatballavpur, Howrah, led to a violent clash on Wednesday, injuring 12 people. The conflict, ongoing for several years, turned physical shortly after a court hearing related to the disputed land. Sources said both families engaged in a heated argument that escalated into a fight involving sticks, rods, and sharp weapons.

All 12 injured individuals were taken to Jagatballavpur Rural Hospital, where they are undergoing treatment. Local sources confirmed that the violence erupted near the disputed land, and both male and female members of the families sustained injuries. Doctors at the rural hospital are currently monitoring the patients. None of the injuries have been reported as fatal so far.

Both parties filed written complaints at Jagatballavpur police station. Police have started an investigation and confirmed deployment of additional forces in the Santoshpur area to maintain peace. Officials said the situation is presently under control but added that legal action will be taken against those found guilty following the inquiry.
